Langston Hughes Community Library and Cultural Center

The Langston Hughes Community Library and Cultural Center, 100-01 Northern Boulevard, Corona, opened in November, 1999. It is a state-of-the-art library with a separate Children's Room, the scholar-worthy Black Heritage Reference Center of Queens County, an auditorium with performance stage and a courtyard for library programs. The second-floor gallery area features exhibits of works in a variety of media by emerging and established artists. New exhibits are installed every four to six weeks.

Individual Artist Showcase

Co-sponsored by Queens Library and the Alliance of Queens Artists, the annual Individual Artist Showcase was begun in 1983, and has become a highly regarded competition among the borough's art community. Showcase winners' works are exhibited in the Libraries, providing an opportunity for library customers to view the work of talented local artists, while giving those artists a forum in which to exhibit their work. Applications for the Individual Artist Showcase are available at all Community Libraries in August.
